MY THOUGHTS:

I can't tell you how many times I have wished that I had access to a time machine and journey back in time.  While this is impossible, I am glad that there are creative writers like Christine Blevins who can paint a portrait of what it would be like to live in historical times.  I felt as if I were right there experiencing everything with Anne.  The Turning of Anne Merrick is an action-filled piece of art!  If you like historical romance novels, this is one of the best that you will ever read.

AUTHOR GUEST POST: A Novel Idea

In my quest for the wonderful tidbits required to make a historical novel come alive, I often bump into a tasty morsel altogether unrelated to what I am seeking, but compelling nonetheless. So what do I do when this happens? I jot it down.

Evidently, sometime during in the course of research for my debut novel, Midwife of the Blue Ridge (an adventure set in 1763), and amid notes regarding 18^th century ocean travel and life aboard a sailing ship, I jotted down this completely unrelated fact:

Really? New York City had been occupied by the British Army for seven years?

Boston and Philadelphia are the large cities that spring to mind when you think about the American Revolution. New York – not so much. I was surprised the city had been occupied by the British enemy for seven years. Not only did I jot the fact down – I double bubbled it!

Once I completed the manuscript Midwife of the Blue Ridge, I set out to get it published. This difficult process begins with first finding a literary agent willing to take on an uncredentialed and unpublished author. One does this by sending out query letters and sample pages, and suffering many, many rejections and much disappointment. At one fairly low point, I was organizing my research materials seriously thinking about giving up on writing, I ran across the bubbled note again.

Really?

New York City had been occupied by the British Army for seven years?

Hmmm… 

We Americans begin learning about the birth of our nation from the moment we gaze in wonder at a firework display at our first Fourth of July celebration. Between kindergarten and high school, a multitude of significant events, the battles and the stories of our forefathers – all of this history becomes etched on, and sometimes lost, in the wrinkles of our brains.

I reread the note and turned to the internet to recover what I had lost, and began  to unearthed things I didn’t ever know. I became swept up in the American Revolution – swept up in the confusion and fervor of that extraordinary time in our history. A story began to coalesce in my mind, somewhat mimicking what was happening to me. This began with the tale of an ordinary woman – not the daughter, or wife or mistress or maid of any historically famous man –  just a woman who gets swept up by remarkable events taking place around her. 

It’s hard for me to describe the complete evolution of this story, but it became apparent once I began the deep research, the story I envisioned would require more than one book. The bubbled note I had written years before became the embryo of a three book series set during the American Revolution.

Anne Merrick’s adventure begins in The Tory Widow with a celebratory kiss from a handsome young stranger. Against a New York City backdrop of civil strife, revolution, and war, Anne discovers her true ideals, and true love.

In The Turning of Anne Merrick, as the war drags on and the Patriot cause appears evermore hopeless, Anne’s resolve and core purpose is tempered and tested at Saratoga, Valley Forge, and in British occupied Philadelphia.

Author Christine Blevins writes what she loves to read – historical adventure stories. As most of you already know, I am love curling up with a good book and being sucked into another world.  I spent an a day engrossed in Snake Skin by CJ Lyons.  While reading, I felt like I was right there going through the motions with Lucille.  Snake Skin is an intense read that will keep your heart pounding.  It's one of the best thrillers I have had the privilege of reading.  If you hadn't read it yet, grab a copy as soon as you can!

My Thoughts:

Back when I had a nine-to-five job, I had the worst time actually getting up when my alarm went off.  The snooze button was my best friend, that is until I actually dragged myself out of bed and saw that I only had ten to fifteen minutes to get ready.  I really wish that Batiste Dry Shampoo had been around during those times.

#HGG Review: LG 47LV4400 47-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV

This year for Christmas my husband and I decided to do a joint gift to ourselves.  We both have been wanting a new TV for our living room and decided it was time for an upgrade from our 32-inch 720p LCD TV.  After much deliberation, we splurged and purchase a LG 47LV4400 47-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV.

I was at the Half Price Bookstore looking for something new to read when I received a call from my hubby informing me in a very excited voice that the TV had just been delivered.  He asked if he could set it up or if I wanted him to wait for me.  I told him he could go ahead and get it working that I was still looking for a new read.

When I walked through the front door, he was messing with the settings and looked happier than I have seen him in a long time.  Boys and their toys.  What am I saying, I was just as thrilled as he was!  We ended up going to my father-in-laws with a whole Pumpkin Pie and asked if we could borrow some of his Blu-ray movies.  We knew that he had good collection and wanted to put our new purchase to the test. 

When we got back home, we put in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and were both drooling over the picture quality and clarity.  The next day we watched Avatar.  For both films, it was like a whole new viewing experience and I have to say that I'm in a love!  The TruMotion 120Hz makes a big difference when you're watching a movie that has a whole lot of action.  The 47-inch LG was the perfect present because we couldn't be happier.  Well, maybe if we had surround sound (hint, hint companies and public relations agencies).  Sorry, couldn't resist =)

James and I are both addicted to video games and because I'm such a loving wife, I let my husband play a game on there first. I was eager to see how the picture quality would differ for games, especially because the television has it's own game setting already programmed.  He chose to play Infamous 2.  I was originally only going to watch him play for like ten minutes and then get on the computer or read a book.  The graphics looked so good though that they put me in a trance and before I knew it two hours had passed.

If you're looking for the perfect gift for yourself or someone else and can afford it, I highly, highly recommend this television.  It's a great item, especially for avid movie-watchers, video game players and sports fans.

Jonah, the Police Chief, has seen his fair share of brutality. His latest investigation begins when a couple of raccoons have been tortured. It's a well known fact that murderers usually start off with animal cruelty which means this case turn over at any moment.

In the small town, drugs are on the rise and he is doing all he can to keep everyone safe. At the same time he is constantly battling a friend and the urge to drown his sorrows in a bottle.

Jonah is one of those people that meets the "kick him when he's down" saying. The poor guy just doesn't get a break. The majority of the time he doesn't let this overwhelm him but he's only human. I liked this book and give it three stars.

Review: Tall, Dark and Wolfish by Lydia Dare

Benjamin is a werewolf who no longer feels like the man he used to be. He has never had a problem with the transformation before but he now fears that he has lost this amazing ability. It seems that having his powers stripped away set his life into motion in ways that he would never have imagined. He meets Elspeth, a witch, who captures his heart and their meeting was anything but coincidence.

I enjoyed the first book in the series and I actually liked this one more. Benjamin's sexiness leaps off the page and you can't help but wish you were Elspeth. Anyone who enjoys werewolves would enjoy this book.

YooHoo & Friends now has their very own website!  You can check out the virtual world now for free. There is no activation code and the site is geared toward children 5-12 years old.

What is YooHoo & Friends?

YooHoo & Friends is a virtual world based upon characters created by Aurora World. The characters are based upon real animals in their natural habitat all over the world.

Some of them are endangered and children will be able to learn about each animal. Children will be able to choose and raise pets, decorate pet’s room, play games and watch YooHoo & Friends animations.*

How does it work?

Any child can register and adopt pets from the YooHoo & Friends characters. We encourage you to check out YooHoo & Friends plush available on WHERE TO BUY! Registration to our website is free and does not require any activation code to enter.

After adopting a pet, children can decorate a pet’s room, play games and earn Green points to decorate their pet’s room. They can also watch previews of the upcoming YooHoo & Friends animation series.*

YooHoo's website allows kids to print off coloring pages, send E-Cards and win prizes. These wonderful toys for kids because they get more experience on the computer while still having fun.
