Games of the Card Kind

Lately, my husband and I have been playing a lot of card games.  It reminds me of when I was a kid because my family would have game nights and we would alternate between playing board and card games.  It is amazing what will stick in your memory.  I remember one time I had a urinary tract infection and I kept having to take bathroom breaks while we played Uno.  Do you play a lot of cards?  What games do you like?

Phase 10 is one of my favorites.  I especially like playing this game with the hubby and Krista.  Krista is the one who got me addicted to it.  Thanks girlie!  I do appreciate a good addiction:)

Uno was my favorite card game as a kid and I still really enjoy it as an adult.  Krista's son Jordan is a pro at this game.  It totally threw me for a loop because he is so young.  He's a little brainiac though, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that he whipped my butt when we played.

 

My dad taught me how to play Gin Rummy and I'm pretty sure he regretted it immediately.  (Not really, my dad was very hands on and I know he enjoyed playing just as much as I did.)  Every time we had a free minute, I was asking him to play with me.  I actually haven't played this game in a while...  I think I know what the hubby and I will be doing later tonight:)

Review - Morphology

My husband and I love to sit down and play a game, especially one that makes us really think.  We had another couple over and were telling them about this new board game that I got to review called Morphology.  I got it out and set it up while my husband read off the directions.  I consider myself to be pretty creative, so I thought that this game was going to be a piece of cake.  Oh, how wrong I was. 

This is a team game, so the first thing you need to do is break off into teams.  Each team chooses a frog to represent them and then hop onto the lily pad with the word "start".  Figure out which team is going to go first and who will be the morphologist.  The morphologist chooses a card and then uses the following tools to create the word shown on the card.

The person on the morphologists team tries to guess what the word is before the timer runs out.  Giving the correct answer allows you to hop to the next lily pad.  If you do not guess correctly, you must maintain your position and try again next time.  The first team's frog to reach "finish" wins. 

The initial turns were relatively easy but once you move past the play sections and start having to roll the die, that's when all the fun really begins.  Here is what happens when you roll a certain number:

1 - Everybody plays

2 - Morphologist must build with their eyes closed

3 - Morphologist must use only their weak hand

4 - Morphologist can ONLY create the word using the string

5 - Morphologist must pick ONLY five items to use BEFORE picking up a card

6 - Interception

All in all, it's a fun game once you get the hang of it.  I suggest a few practice rounds before playing for real, just to help familiarize yourself with the pieces and rules.  Plus, it will give you a chance to get those creative juices flowing so you can pummel the opposing team by thinking outside of the box.

I can't wait for this movie to come out!  It's one I would actually pay to see in the theaters.

Review: Do Tell the Relationship Board Game Family Version

One of the most vivid memories that I have of my childhood is game night.  At least one night a week, Dad, Mom, myself and my sister would sit at the kitchen table and play a board or card game.  I always looked forward to these nights because I got to spend time with my favorite people. 

My husband and I enjoy games, so I decided that it would be a good idea to have a game night.  We played Do Tell and ended up learning a lot of things that we didn't know about each other.  The game is designed for two to eight players and is for players age 8 to 88.  It only takes about 45 minutes to learn new and exciting things about your spouse, child, sibling, etc.  We had a blast playing and it was great to have an evening full of laughter.

This game has been winning all sorts of much deserved recognition, even winning the Kidlutions Preferred Product Award.  I can tell you from experience, if you want to get to know someone, there's no better way than to play Do Tell.

Review: Plants and Zombies

Zombies are ready to take over your home and the only weapon you have is 49 zombie killer plants. Your only hope is to turn the zombies to mush before they make it to your door. Your resources are limited so you have to think and act quickly if you want to survive.

I was playing this game last week and I was so engrossed in it that I forgot that it is just a game. My husband kept laughing at me because I would get all frustrated and cuss out the stupid zombies. It was a lot of fun, even though the poor zombies had to deal with my abuse.

Bejeweled 2 Review

Bejeweled 2 is a great game to play to recharge your batteries. There are different modes, so you can decide which one you feel like playing at any given moment. What you do is match gems at least three gems at a time and then they burst giving you points. You get to create explosive jewels like power gems, hyper cubes and time bombs. If you get stuck, you can use the hint function to help you.

One of my favorite things to do when I have a free moment is to play a game. It takes me away from the stresses of life and occupies my mind in a way that allows me to release some frustration. Bejeweled 2 is one of my favorite puzzle games.

Review: I've Never Game

Eden Fantasy is the place I turn to for fun, adult games. Recently I received the board game "I've Never" and we had a blast playing! When a card is read, you either move forward if you have taken part in the activity listed or if you haven't done this, you have to drink. If you get caught lying, you receive a penalty and must take a drink. It was a lot of fun and I hope to find more games like this!

This game can be played by up to eight people. It includes the game board, two dice and a stack of cards.
