Giveaway: GNC $100 Gift Card

March is "National Nutrition Month" and has made me think about how well I take care of myself.  A lot of women spend so much time worrying about the nutrition of their loved ones and forget that how important their own nutrition is. I know that I am guilty of this. I'm constantly thinking about what I can do to make sure that my dog lives a long and healthy life. I read the nutritional information on every bag of dog food, every bag of treats and thoroughly inspect her vitamins.  I have decided that I am going to put just as much effort into making myself healthy.  I'm getting older and the sooner I start taking better care of myself, the better I will feel.

One It's My Life reader will win a $100 Gift Card to GNC!

Blog Tour Review: Healing the Highlander by Melissa Mayhue

ANDREW MACALISTER longs for a cure to free him from the excruciating pain caused by an old wound, but when he rescues a drowning woman, he has no idea how much his life is about to change. All Drew knows is that this mysterious woman is hiding secrets—and that he’s never felt such a consuming desire before. Yet he cannot deny her request for help, even if it means bringing the detested English army to his Highland clan’s home.
LEAH NOBLE MCQUARRIE still harbors a deep hatred of the Fae who tortured her eleven years ago, forcing her to escape back in time to the thirteenth century. A descendant of the Fae, Leah denies her heritage and her magical healing abilities. But the English army is holding her beloved adoptive grandfather captive, so Leah must seek help from the Fae—and the captivating man whose touch she craves.

Then Drew discovers Leah’s secrets, and he’s torn between old loyalties and trusting a woman who has the power to give him the future he’s sought—but could destroy his clan forever. . . .

A love story at its finest.  Healing the Highlander is full of every kind of raw emotion.  This book is one of the few time travel books I have read and now I'm hooked!  Melissa's talent as a romance writer is astounding.  My favorite thing about this book is that it has to do with the paranormal.  I can't wait to find out what else Melissa will write!

Blog Tour Review: Rogue Oracle by Alayna Williams

THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE FUTURE, THE MORE THERE MAY BE TO FEAR.

Tara Sheridan is the best criminal profiler around—and the most unconventional. Trained as a forensic psychologist, Tara also specializes in Tarot card reading. But she doesn’t need her divination skills to realize that the new assignment from her friend and sometime lover, Agent Harry Li, is a dangerous proposition in every way.

Former Cold War operatives, all linked to a top-secret operation tracking the disposal of nuclear weapons in Russia, are disappearing. There are no bodies, and no clues to their whereabouts. Harry suspects a conspiracy to sell arms to the highest bidder. The cards—and Tara’s increasingly ominous dreams—suggest something darker. Even as Tara sorts through her feelings for Harry and her fractured relationship with the mysterious order known as Delphi’s Daughters, a killer is growing more ruthless by the day. And a nightmare that began decades ago in Chernobyl will reach a terrifying endgame that not even Tara could have foreseen. . . .

Smart, engaging and a total thrill-ride.  Rogue Oracle blew me away.  I'm a sucker for reading about catching a criminal.  A lot of the time though, I end up disappointed.  I am very happy to say that is not the case with Rogue Oracle

More beautiful and powerful than any creature the world has ever seen, Dante Baptiste has become the supreme target of the three worlds that spawned him. The vampire elders who guide nightkind society have plotted to use him in their bloodthirsty bid for power. And the Fallen have waited for millennia for Dante to claim his birthright as their Maker. But Dante belongs to no one—except the woman he loves. . . .

ONE PASSION SWORN IN BLOOD

Determined to face the Fallen and the world on his own terms, Dante hopes to piece together his shattered past and claim his future, with FBI agent Heather Wallace at his side. But in Heather’s human family awaits an unexpected enemy. One who could rip Heather from Dante’s heart and fill the holes with bullets. One who could force Dante to choose his darkest destiny—as the Great Destroyer. . . .

Wow!  I had a blast reading Etched in Bone.  Throughout the entire book I couldn't believe how imaginative Adrian is.  She paints a world through her own eyes and I really feel like she writes from deep down in her soul.  Everything about this book is fabulous, the writing, the plot and most importantly the characters.

Sensory Integration Disorder

 Dear Friends,

On Friday February 18th, The Oprah Winfrey Show had an “exclusive” story titled “The 7-Year-Old Who Tried to Kill his Mother.” A frightening, yet true story of young Zach and his mother Laurie.

Zach has a variety of mental health disorders. The first disorder mentioned by Oprah was “sensory integration disorder” as the initial diagnosis for Zach.  The majority of the show focused on the tough challenges of mental illness and the family’s journey.  The website, www.savingzach.org states that Zach is enrolled in a residential therapeutic school in New Hampshire that specializes in alternative approaches to helping these children.

Visit the website:
http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Children-Dealing-with-Violent-Rage

Neither Sensory Integration Disorder (also called Sensory Processing Disorder) by some people, but not in the Oprah show was not explained in depth, nor was Zach’s mental health diagnoses, leaving the impression that children with a diagnosis of SPD, may be inclined to rage attacks that could lead to attempts to kill others.  We have received a plethora of letters from parents and others who are frustrated and puzzled by the Oprah show.

However, we see this as a great opportunity to bring Sensory Processing Disorder / Sensory Integration Dysfunction to the attention of Oprah and her team.

Quote from the show:

“Sensory integration disorder was Zach’s first diagnosis and that has to do with how Zach perceived his world.  So he was incredibly sensitive to everything.  He would do things like throw himself on the ground, thrash his body, where a normal kid, it would hurt, and he would get pleasure.  He would laugh.  South bothered him.  Light, clothing, that sort of thing and everything was accentuated 10 – 15 times of what a normal person would experience.  That’s what sensory is.”

The SPD Foundation has posted a response online on their website and their Facebook cause page.  The Foundation is rallying a grassroots letter writing campaign as well. The goal is to get 10,000 letters to Oprah by next Friday, March 4.

YOU CAN HELP!!

To send your own letter to Oprah’s site, here is what you need to do:

1.     Register on Oprah’s web site so that you can leave a public comment:  https://myown.oprah.com/register.html

2.     Base your story around a fact or facts (provided at SPD Foundation site: go to Oprah@SPDFoundation.net for facts you can include in your letter) and keep your response positive.  Our goal is to get 10,000 letters overflowing their virtual mail boxes.
3.     Send the Foundation a copy to so we can tally the number of letters going in. Options on  www.SPDFoundation.net/OprahResponse

4.      Post your letter in the Comments Section on Zach’s story at Oprah’s website.

Review: BenGay Pain Relief + Massage

I have spent the last few years with pain that comes and goes depending on how much I do or what the weather is like.  It's really tough to do the normal, routine cooking, cleaning and going to the grocery store.  I have been in search of a product that will help me, even if it's only temporary.  When I received an email asking if I would be interested in reviewing Bengay Pain Relief + Massage, I was instantly excited.  I started using it the day I received it in the mail and I was really surprised by how well it worked on my aching muscles.  For a few hours, I was able to concentrate on something other than how bad I was hurting.  I even used it on my lower back when it was that time of month and it helped.  I want to make something very clear about this product.  When you put it on, it does have a scent but after about ten minutes, I couldn't smell it in more.  Just remember that it says "vanishing scent", not "no scent".  I love the no mess applicator and I like the little nubs on the tube because it really does feel like a massage.  I recommend this for muscle and joint pain, post workouts and arthritis.

  • Massaging nubs uniquely designed to massage in the powerful relief of the BENGAY® gel
  • No mess applicator design controls the product flow
  • Vanishing scent starts disappearing in minutes

In The Office

The place in my home where I spent the majority of time is in my office.  Lately, I have been thinking about redecorating with something fresh.  When I started browsing though CSN's office desks, it took changed from thinking to drooling.  I fell head-over-heels for the desk pictured above.  It's absolutely gorgeous and I saw a lot of other great office furniture.

Kids With Outdoor Playsets

I never really paid a lot of attention to kid's stuff until the day I found out that my sister was pregnant with Damien.  As soon as I heard those magic words "you're going to be an aunt" my world was forever changed.  My handsome little nephew has had a several outdoor playsets and he's only four.  Between a mother who always puts him first and a grandma who is head over heals for her grandson, I can't say I expected anything less.  I was browsing the playsets on CSN and with over 200+ stores, their selection is the best there is.
