Family Fun

My dad was in the Navy and until I was eight years old he was stationed in San Diego, California. I loved living out there. I got to go to the beach a lot and it was easy to spend all day outside. The biggest memory I have from my time out there is when we would go to Disneyland. My sister was three years younger than me, so mom would take her around to do things that were geared toward kids her age and I would get some quality time with my dad. We went around and rode rides and it was a really great experience. I loved having that father-daughter time. If you haven't been, you should purchase a disneyland ticket. It really is a magical place.

Review: Children of Paranoia by Trevor Shane

Since the age of eighteen, Joseph has been assassinating people on behalf of a cause that he believes in but doesn’t fully understand. The War is ageless, hidden in the shadows, governed by a rigid set of rules, and fought by two distinct sides — one good, one evil. The only unknown is which side is which. Soldiers in the War hide in plain sight, their deeds disguised as accidents or random acts of violence amidst an unsuspecting population ignorant of the brutality that is always inches away.

Killing people is the only life Joseph has ever known, and he’s one of the best at it. But when a job goes wrong and he’s sent away to complete a punishingly dangerous assignment, Joseph meets a girl named Maria, and for the first time in his life his singleminded, bloody purpose fades away.

Before Maria, Joseph’s only responsibility was dealing death to the anonymous targets fingered by his superiors. Now he must run from the people who have fought by his side to save what he loves most in this world. As Children of Paranoia reaches its heart-in-throat climax, Joseph will learn that only one rule remains immutable: the only thing more dangerous than fighting the war. . .is leaving it.

The first time I heard about Children of Paranoia, I thought, now this is a book I need to read.  I love the title and the story sounded like something that I would really enjoy.  I wasn't disappointed!  I was engrossed in the pages of this novel and even though certain parts were pretty predictable, it is a great read.  I give it five stars!  I will not be surprised if this book is made into a major motion picture.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes.

The Middle: Making A Mistake

Watching comedic television shows often reminds me of my life. I used to tell people that I could have my own show and it would probably be funnier than anything that is actually on television. One episode of The Middle really got me thinking about my youth and some of the mistakes that I have made. In this particular episode, Brick and Sue are both staying in Sue's room and they end up putting a hole in the wall. In their attempt to fix this, they just cover the hole with a poster. Of course this doesn't have the desired effect. One time when I was younger, a friend and I went shopping at the mall. I had an earring obsession at the time and had to visit Claire's. We were looking at different jewelry and she ended up trying on an ear cuff. We walked out of the store and were making our way around the mall when she realized that she still had the cuff on and hadn't paid for it. Instead of walking in and telling the cashier what happened, she took the cuff and threw it back into the store. If it were me, I would have walked in and admitted my mistake. She was afraid of getting in trouble though, so no matter how much I tried to convince her of the right thing to do, she wasn't hearing it.

Have you ever been in a situation similar to Brick and Sue's? See how the Hecks brilliantly true-to-life kids cover up their accident on The Second Season of The Middle on DVD, currently available for pre-order http://bit.ly/qliHr2 and hitting shelves on 9/27/11!

Heart Specialist Vitamins by Centrum #NutritionPossible

I didn't really think much about vitamins before my husband and I got together.  Sure, I took some every now and again but not religiously.  My husband on the other hand started taking vitamins regularly long before we became a couple.  I can't tell you how many times he has tried to drill the importance of these pills into my head.  For a while, I took them just to appease him and I mean, what could it hurt?  It didn't take long for me to notice a difference in myself and how I feel physically.  This is just one of many things that I have learned from my amazing husband.

It was time to buy some new multivitamins and so the husband and I headed to Walmart.  I knew that the vitamins would be near the pharmacy, so I went in the entrance closest to the products I was in search of.  It was really easy to find the Centrum brand.

I had heard about Centrum's new Specialist line and was interested in trying one of them out.  In the end, we decided to purchase the Heart Specialist Vitamins by Centrum

My family and his has a history of heart problems, so these product really made sense.  We have been taking them the past couple of days and it feels great to do something for myself and my heart health.

The Mentalist: Who's Helping Red John?

It became pretty clear in season three of The Mentalist that there was a mole in the FBI who is helping Red John.  Before the mole was actually revealed, I had a couple of theories on who the mole was.  My first thought was that it was the head of Internal Affairs, LaRoche.  Thanks to his job title, he could easily obtain any information he wanted and no one would think anything of it.  Plus, he always seemed to be hiding something.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is one of the funniest shows that I've seen in a long time.  I feel like I connect with the characters in this show.  Like in the Pilot episode when Leonard falls for Penny and his friends all think he's nuts because they say she's way out of his league.  To make a point Leonard stands up to Penny's boyfriend, who is much bigger and much meaner, and ends up being de-pantsed.

My friends know that as soon as they tell me that I can't do something, I will spend my days and nights determined to prove them wrong.  There have been many times that I surprised everyone and been able to do the "impossible".  But, there have been just as many times that I have ended up embarrassing myself.

I remember being around thirteen years old and I saw this guy that I thought was really cute.  I was at the skating rink and one of my friends said that I wouldn't be able to get his attention because he was so engrossed in a game of pool with his friends.  Well, I decided to skate around him and then go back out to the rink.  I was doing what little tricks I could and ended up catching his eye.  Of course I couldn't stop staring at him and ended up slamming right into the wall.  I was mortified.  I thought that my world was over and needless to say, he didn't come talk to me.

The Middle: Little White Lies

Everyone has told a lie in their life and ended up getting caught.  Most of the time the reason for the lie isn't malicious, it's to spare someone's feelings by protecting them from the truth.  It has been a long time since I told a lie to my family or friends.  The last time would probably have to be when I was a teen or in my early twenties.

The most memorable lie I told was when I was a teen and my mom asked me if I was smoking cigarettes.  I knew how she would react and I didn't want her to worry.  I kept saying that I wasn't smoking, I was around people who were and that's why my clothes smelled like that.  I felt horrible lying but the last thing I wanted to do was see my mom cry.

Have your kids ever caught you in a lie? See how Frankie, the loving wife and mother of three from ABC's The Middle handles her white lies when her youngest son becomes the wiser. Available for pre-order! http://bit.ly/qliHr2

The Mentalist: Red John?

For those who don't know, the main character Patrick lost his wife and daughter to a serial killer, Red John.   Well, in the third season's finale, Patrick comes face to face with a man who claims to be Red John.  Do you think it's really him?

I've often thought about this and have come to the conclusion that I don't think it's really his wife and daughters murderer.  I am convinced that it is someone who just wants to take credit and play with Patrick's emotions.  I don't think we will see the real Red John until the end of the entire series.  What do you think?

Making A Difference With #WalgreensGives

Thanks to Walgreens for sponsoring my writing. Help Walgreens help others! Visit their Facebook page here to learn about their charitable partners and decide which cause Walgreens will donate to with a quick vote.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to make a difference.  It's really important to me that I do what I can to make the world a better place.  Even as a child, I felt this way and it has become even more intense as I age.  I enjoy being able to lend a hand, whether it's financially or with my time.  Any items that I can no longer use, I try to find someone who would benefit from having it.  In my community, I have served food to the homeless, given Christmas presents to children at orphanages and donated cash to local charities.  Each time that I am able to do something, even the smallest gesture makes me feel like life is worth living.  I don't feel like myself unless I am able to help.  In my life, I have had hard times and if it hadn't been for someone giving back, I don't know how I would have made it.  I think this just reinforces my beliefs.

There are so many different ways to give back and once you do it, it becomes second-nature.  There are a lot of programs that help you give back to your community without having to spend a lot of money or give up much of your time.  You can donate old cell phones to give to women who are being abused.  Instead of throwing away clothes that you don't wear any more, drop them off at St. Vincent de Paul.  If you enjoy knitting, knit some sweaters and give them to a homeless shelter.    Don't throw away your expired coupons, send them to men and women in the military because they can use them for up to six months after the expiration date.  How do you give back or plan on giving back to your community?

Don't forget to help Walgreens help others! Visit their Facebook page here to learn about their charitable partners and decide which cause Walgreens will donate to with a quick vote. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

The Mentalist: Patrick Is A Jack Of All Trades

Is there anything that Patrick can't do?  Season 3 shows him taking on new challenges with gusto.  He communicates with horses, gets the bad guys to spill the beans and in less than 24 hours helps a burglar escape from a holding cell.

He has so many skills that help him in his job and everyday life.  If I could choose one of his skills to have myself, it would have to be getting people to tell me things that they wouldn't offer up on their own.  I would use this particular skill like Patrick and help track down the truth.

The Middle: Season 2

Life can get overwhelming at times and The Middle expresses that better than a lot of television shows.  Plus, it so comedic that you can't help but enjoy it.  I don't have children, so a lot of the struggles they face don't apply to me personally.  My life does feel out of control at times and I can't imagine what it would be like to have three kids thrown in the mix.

Having two children who participate in extra curricular activities can be a little stressful.  The Heck's try to attend these events but they have different ideas about which event to attend and which one to skip.

I always do my best to make sure that I don't "overbook" myself. Sometimes though, this is unavoidable. When those times present themselves, I try to prioritize and make it to each event that I can. I have even been known to throw up my hands and say I can't do it.

The Vampire Diaries Season 2 Extras

I am completely smitten with The Vampire Diaries.  I would have to say that it is my favorite show at the moment.  I've been watching both the first and second season back to back in preparation for the third season which airs Thursday, September 15th.  I'm so excited!

One of the things that I was really looking forward to in the DVD was the special features.  I love watching the actors and writers talk about the show and why they chose to do things a certain way.  The most interesting thing that I learned would have to be how Nina plays both Elena and Katherine.  It was really cool to see how they can be in the same scene by using a split screen.  The wolf extras were neat because I got to see how they did Tyler's transformation from a human to a werewolf.

My favorite extra would have to be the gag reel!  I like seeing how actors react when they mess up by flubbing a line.  It's great to see the actors personal side and makes me feel more connected with them.

Supernatural: Battling Demons

Supernatural is one of those shows that I can't get enough of.  I love watching Dean and Sam battling evil.  The two brothers are very different and I'm starting to worry about Sam.  He's become disconnected and in his line of business, that could be fatal.

Watching the brothers of Supernatural fight of demons together got me thinking about what it would be like to have their job.  How would I pick a partner to fight with?  It would have to be someone that I wouldn't mind spending a lot of time with and who I would trust to have my back.  If I was able to choose my own partner, it would have to be my husband.  We already spend a lot of time together and I know for a fact he would give it his all.

The Mentalist

I can still remember when The Mentalist's first season began.  I was working in an office at the time and some of my co-workers had just watched the pilot episode.  I had seen previews and thought that it looked like a good show but after hearing so much positive feedback, I just had to see the show for myself.  I have been a fan ever since.

In it's third season, Patrick Jane is called to all different types of locations to solve mysteries.  He has a lot of experience in dealing with mysteries but like everyone, there are some places that he encounters that would be more challenging than others.  The one that I thought would be the most difficult for him would have to be the racetrack because so many people come and go.

Would You Like To Spend Some Time At Kalahari Resorts?

This post brought to you by Kalahari® Resorts. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am always interested in visiting new places and one place on my list is Kalahari Resorts Sandusky.  The hotel has amazing amenities including Kalahari Spa, Safari Adventures Animal Park, Pottery Pizzazz and much more!  The spa and animal park are calling my name!

The Sandusky water park has over 500,000 gallons of water.  That's insane!  In a good way, of course.  Interested in going around 40 miles per hour on the Zimbabwe Zipper?  I am, but to be honest, I am a little scared...  The slides and lazy river sound like my kind of fun.

The Safari Outdoor Adventure Park has all kinds of goodies as well.  There is a rope course, a Zip Line Tour that is 400 feet long and an Adventure Climbing Wall that is 32 feet high.

For the month of September (excluding Labor Day weekend), Sandusky will cost you less than $200 a night.  They also have a promotion going on where you can stay on a Monday for free!  Make sure you follow Kalahari on Facebook and Twitter.

I saved the best news for last.  They are hosting a contest to win a free stay at a Kalahari Resort!  To enter, you must leave a comment on the contest page telling them which amenity you are most excited about trying and tweet a message with the contest rules link using the hashtag #KalahariResorts.  Easy as pie!

Gossip Girl Extras

If you are a Gossip Girl fan, you are going to love the fourth season on DVD.  Not only does it have all of the episodes, it also has fabulous extras.

My favorite special feature would have to be the gag reel.  I love watching actors flub their lines because it lets you know that they are humanly imperfect.

My favorite character would have to be Blair and it was really cool to watch Bisoux a Paris and take a peek at Serene and Blair's summer in the City of Lights.

Watching the scenes that didn't make it on to television and The Art of Making an Episode made me feel like an insider which was pretty great.

Supernatural: Surprises

In the sixth season of Supernatural, Dean surprises Sam with his fatherly side.  When they take on a case of missing babies, Dean's paternal instincts come out in full force.  This really got me thinking about how people often surprise you in life.

There are certain people in my life who have surprised me for the better.  One example I can think of is my husband.  When he went to Afghanistan to fight, he was worried about leaving me here.  He ended up moving me and a mutual friend of ours into a really nice apartment so that we wouldn't be lonely.  It came as a shock at first but afterward, it made total sense because he loved us both and wanted to make life as easy for us as he could.

Deals You Can't Resist

I am a bargain shopper by nature and before purchasing a product, I do some online research to find out what kind of deals I can take advantage of.  When I am able to find a steal of a deal, I feel a rush of adrenaline and it feels great.  I recently found out about an auction website called dealfun.com.  The auctions start at just $0.01! They have a variety of products, including the iPad, iPhone, LED TV, kindle, laptop, PS3 and more!

What I really like about this website is that they have beginners auctions for those who are new to this.  That way you have a chance to work on your bidding skills.  They have a win guarantee where if you don't win within the first 24 hours, your bids are reset.   There is no weekly or monthly caps, so you are free to bid on many different items.  The buy it now feature is something that I really like.  If you don't win an item, you can put the bids toward purchasing the product.  Deal Fun has excellent, prompt customer service, so if you have any questions or issues, they will be there to help guide you.
