Review: Harry Connick Jr. - Your Songs CD

I'm neutral on this CD. It definitely wasn't my favorite but it wasn't horrible either. It's a good to cd to relax with or listen to while cleaning. It's not something I would jam out to with my friends on a long car ride but I'm not going to throw it away either. I think it's one of those albums that you have to be in the mood to hear.

One2One Network provided me with a copy for my review.

Album Tracklisting (Originally performed by):

All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)

Hair Loss

Hair Loss affects people of all ages, sexes and races. I actually had bald patches at one point. I had been through a divorce and was stressed to the max. I ended up going to the dermatologist to find out what was wrong with me. When the doctor came in and told me that I had Alopecia, I was ready to burst into tears. Alopecia can be caused by heredity and by stress. No one in my family suffered from this as know so it must have been caused by stress. What happens is, the body notices hair follicles and it doesn't recognize them as belonging to you, so it lets them go. Some people are able to regrow their hair and never have another episode. Others are unable to reproduce the hair in that specific spot and may end up losing hair in other spots as well. Luckily, after receiving injections and using a special mousse, I was able to grow hair in those spots and I have not had a repeat problem. I understand where people are coming from when they complain about hair loss and think about getting hair loss treatment. Male hair loss is the most common but it does happen to women as well.

Review: No Limits by Sara Morgan

I've always wanted to work for myself. It's not that I hate authority, it's just that I don't want to spend all my time making millions of dollars for some company who is paying me minimum wage. (A bit of an exaggeration on my part but it's the truth for some.) I honestly feel like we've become a slave to corporations. I've had this discussion several times with my family and friends and I can't seem to shake my feelings about this. I also can't stand crooked businessmen/businesswomen. I have been known to just walk out of a job with no explanation, no notice, no nothing. I don't feel bad about it either. One job I had, the owner messed with the information on my computer. If anyone found out, it would have looked like I was the person lying about our performance. I'm a bit anal retentive and I take really good notes and I'm highly organized. Thank God this was the case! Otherwise, I never would have known that someone had fudged numbers. He didn't admit it outright at first but I knew in my gut I had to leave and I had to leave at that moment. I don't care if someone offered me a million dollars, you cannot buy my character. I am not for sale. I will live in a cardboard box on the street before I become some unfeeling robot.

Anyway, about this book... When I was given the offer to review this book, there was no question about it. I spend everyday trying to better myself and educate the people around me. I really enjoy reading books that empower you and give you the tools you need to aid you in this life. This is no get rich quick scheme. This book will help you pinpoint your strengths and weakness and give you the skills necessary to be your own boss. I think that this book is a wonderful guide for small business owners but I also think that the benefits provided by this book could be helpful to anyone, anywhere. You can apply much of what you read into your daily life.

GUEST POST:

Avoid being trapped in a negative avalanche

These days, remaining positive, despite the challenges that pop up in daily life can often be a very difficult thing to do. After all, everywhere you look there is someone spreading bad news. Whether it is the mainstream media, a neighbor, or the man behind the deli counter, it seems that too many people are quick to view life’s glass as half empty.

But, this is precisely the time when remaining optimistic is so critical. Without a proactive effort on your part to remain positive, you could easily be overcome by a negative avalanche, in which you suddenly view everything in your life as negative. This avalanche can start with just a single bad day, but it can end with the loss of a job, a marriage, or worse.

To prevent yourself from being overtaken by a negative avalanche, you need to actively take steps to avoid negative things and create a positive halo around yourself. Start by limiting how much news you view. It is not necessary to inundate yourself with television, print, and online media. It is ok to keep up with the latest, but unless you are in the media business, there is no need to spend more than 30 minutes to an hour a day looking at or reading the news (and this includes online blogs and the evening news program).

The next thing to do is to practice being positive. Set aside time in which you will deliberately act and think positively, no matter what occurs. You can start by just doing this for 30 minutes a day and gradually build your time until you can do it all day long. Before you know it, you will start to see new opportunities arising and you will see the world in an entirely different light. Try it today and see what you think. Instead of being inundated by a negative avalanche, create your own positive avalanche.

Addiction

Addiction affects everyone. The actions of someone you love can have an enormous impact on the people around them. Depression and addiction go hand in hand. I've heard people say "she's doing it to herself, it's her own fault". While some people do decide to escape the burdens life has forced upon them, they usually don't see any other way to numb the pain. I suffer from depression and while I've never turned to alcohol or harsh drugs, I do understand why people feel like that is their only way out. When you get so far down that you don't care if you live to see tomorrow, you really don't care about what will happen in the future. Depression makes you blind and addiction offers a solution. When given the opportunity to numb your pain, you will do a lot of things that wouldn't even cross your mind if you weren't hurting so bad. Sober Living is not an easy thing for addicts but it is possible. With understanding family and friends, anything is possible. Alcohol Rehab is a great thing for heavy drinkers because it puts someone in a place with others who are experiencing similar feelings. Prescription Drug Addiction has become a common problem. Luckily, there is somewhere to turn for all kinds of addiction.

Phone Cards & Calling Cards

I have had to use my share of international calling cards. My husband and I actually attended the same high school, but we had lost touch and one day we just so happened to find each other. Before we were married, he decided to join the Army. He went through basic training and then went on to Airborne school for his training. He ended up being stationed in Germany and I ended up staying here in the US. As you can imagine, the phone calls could get pretty expensive. I'm so glad there are Prepaid Phone Card ! I had to wait for him to call me most of the time because I never knew when he would be free to talk. I purchased a bunch of calling cards and mailed them to him. This saved us a lot of money. A lot of the military spouses that I had met felt the same way I do about International Phone Cards, they are a necessity for our troops. Families missing their soldiers have enough to worry about and they shouldn't be concerned with shortening phone calls in order to save money. I couldn't imagine missing one word spoken by husband during that time. I'm so glad calling cards are available.

Review & Giveaway: Reading Glasses

As you all know, I am a Readaholic. I actually have really good vision but sometimes I find myself having trouble reading. This usually happens only when I'm reading one of those paperbacks that have a font size of 1 (I'm exaggerating a bit but that's how it feels). When I was given the chance to review a pair of glasses from Reading Glasses Shopper, I was really excited to test them out. Originally I had asked for The Bayside in black but I received the brown because the black were out of stock. This actually worked out for the best because the brown go great with my hair and eyes. I tested these babies out while reading a paperback and I felt like someone had turned on a light. I felt the AHHHH, hallelujah feeling. The font went from a 1 to a 14! It was amazing.

One of my readers will receive a $25 gift certificate for a new pair of reading glasses.

Our Furry Friends

I'm sure most of you know that I'm a dog lover. I take care of my dogs like they are my kids. I get so excited when they learn something new. I make sure that they have food and a roof over their head. I also make sure they are healthy by taking them to the vet regularly for checkups. I have never had a problem with fleas or ticks. I believe that prevention is the best way to go when it comes to humans and our furry friends. I've used Frontline Plus on all of my dogs and I've never had a problem, so I'm planning on sticking to what I know until a problem presents itself. I've heard great things about Advantage Flea, so if I end up needing to switch, that will be my next option. Every back up needs a back up, so next on my list is Promeris for Dogs. The medicine dosage goes hand in hand with the size of your dog. There are different colors for different weights, so if you have multiple dogs who range in size, this should help you make sure the right dog gets the right treatment. If you click on the link, you can find out more about these different medicines and listen to some cool music.

Need Some Cash?

There have been a couple times in my life when I have been in desperate need of upfront cash. Living paycheck to paycheck isn't always easy and when an emergency pops up, it can not only physically drain you, it can actually harm you. One time I was having extreme pain in my mouth. I went to the dentist and found out that my wisdom tooth was coming in crooked and pushing against my other tooth. The problem was, I had only been at my job for a couple of weeks and my dental insurance wouldn't kick in until I had been there ninety days. The pain became more and more unbearable and I had no idea what I was going to do. This tooth was still below the gum line so I would have to be put under during the removal. It cost over $800. That's a whole lot of money to a recent high school graduate who was about to start college and just started working full time. I could only afford half of the payment at the time and I had not been on my job long enough to be approved for a cash advance. I'm so blessed to have wonderful parents who went helped me tremendously by filling out an application and borrowing the money to loan to me. I was able to get my tooth out and I was able to pay back the loan my parents were given. You never know what cards you will be dealt in the future but it's nice to know that if a problem comes up, there are cash advance places to turn to.

Review & Giveaway: The Wrong Mother by Sophie Hannah

Sally had an affair. She was exhausted and in desperate need of a break. When her business trip was unexpectedly cancelled, she decided to get away anyway. She met Mark and their tryst began. They talked about lives they lead, about their work and about their families. When the vacation came to an end, the two parted ways thinking they would never see each other again.

One night while Sally and her husband are watching TV and to Sally's surprise, Mark's name comes up on the news. To her surprise, his wife and child have both been killed. When they show Mark's picture, Sally realizes that the man she was with was not really Mark, her short term lover was using the identity of someone else. Now she is in panic mode and scared for her family. Will she be able to protect her family from this madman that she once shared a bed with?

I'm addicted. Now I have to go out and buy all of her other books. Seriously. This was a phenomenal read that blew my mind. Review: GoJane Boots

GoJane has the hippest shoes! I was told that I could choose a pair to review and I don't know if I've ever had so much trouble making a decision. Look at these great heels:

Since it will soon be wintertime, living in Kentucky and having to deal with snow I thought boots would be a good idea. I started looking boots and realized that I was having facing the same dilemma. How can I decide? Finally, I narrowed it down to a few pairs like:

It wasn't that hard to choose after this because I know we'll be having lots of snow and ice so I went for the more practical but just as gorgeous Hidden Platform Suede Boot shown below.

As soon as I received them, I put them on and my husband started laughing hysterically. I had on blue shorts and a red t-shirt and the taupe boots. It was pretty funny but as soon as I saw them I just had to put them on. My sister was a teeny bit jealous when she saw these. Shoes to her are like books to me, they are incredible and you can never have enough. I guess I'll have to get her a pair for her birthday or Christmas. Luckily, I wear an 8 1/2 and she wears a 6, so I will get to keep my darling boots.

Thank you so much GoJane for sending me a pair of boots to review.

Actuality

My husband and I were channel surfing and we came across truTV. I had seen a few commercials but I hadn't actually had a chance to watch it until recently. I used to be addicted to COPS. I must admit that I prefer truTV's Most Daring. The high speed chases are amazing! My heart starts pumping faster just watching these videos. I feel like I'm right there while the video's being filmed. I can't believe some of the crazy things people do! I kept having to remind myself that these people aren't actors or stunt doubles. I can't believe some of these people were just able to walk away without a scratch. In one of truTV video, a man literally drops from the rooftop of a building. During the Bring a Friend, Rob a Bank video, I had to keep reminding myself to breathe. These videos are full of suspense and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Most Daring is all new and shows at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. What will you be watching on Wednesday? Make sure you take a look at the following video and see if this show is something you could get into.

Addicted to Video Games

Are you addicted to video games? There are times when I become so focused on a game I'm playing that I am oblivious to what is going on around me. My favorite games are the ones that you can play with friends. It's so much fun to compete with friends and family while enjoying a good game. When I play one of these games with my husband, I like to play the ones where we are fighting against each other.

How cool would it be to be able to play along with friends with a multiplayer iphone game platform? Tetris is my favorite cell phone game and I would really enjoy playing against someone. I play games on my phone when I'm waiting in the waiting room at the doctor's office, waiting for a friend to finish getting ready and when I find that I'm bored. My friends and I used to all play snake at the same time but since we couldn't actually play together, we would make up our own rules. This will be great for my nephew when he gets older as well because it will help pass the time and I'm sure he would love to kick my butt when we go head to head on the phone!

Review & Giveaway: Cover Your Hair

I have really long hair (length - middle of my back) and I love it. Sometimes though, it drives me crazy because it's always getting in my face. It even tries to steal my food! Anyway, sometimes I get really frustrated with it and I start feeling like I should hack it all off. The problem with that is, I really like my hair long. It looks so good when I take the time to fix it.

I've tried pulling it back in a ponytail but that just gives me a headache. I found the perfect solution: Cover Your Hair.

I want to thank Cover Your Hair for sending me a review item and for allowing me to host a giveaway.

Offeretti

I'm a sucker for a good deal. I am constantly trying to find the best product for the best price. I just found out about a Local Offers Search Engine called Offeretti. You can find all kinds of coupons, special deals, discounts and more. All you have to do is type in the category and the destination and this site will do the rest. Search for restaurants, home and garden, entertainment, etc. You can sign up to be a Facebook fan like I did and find out about the latest deals from their Facebook page. I have found so many great deals! A four course dinner for two at P.F. Chang's is only $39.95. One of my favorites though is the Outback Steakhouse 15 meals under $15 deal.
