Blog Tour: Megan's Way by Melissa Foster

Megan finds out that her cancer has come back.  On top of dealing with her current condition, she is also stuck in the middle of making a very difficult decision concerning her daughter, Olivia, and her best friend.  All three are coping with the development of possibly loosing Megan.  Secrets are revealed, lives are changed and difficult decisions are impossible to ignore.

Megan’s Way is touching story about a mother’s love.  This is a great book for all women.  We’ve all hit rough patches and we’ve all had to make decisions that we wish we could avoid.  I’m sure you will find it easy to relate to the women in this book and it will remind you or the group of sisters that are your life long friends.

Q & A Session:
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I knew I wanted to be a writer in 1991, when I was overtaken by a painful desire to write, and found myself writing the beginning of story after story and then stowing them away (I had no time back then because of children:-))

Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration has come from many people. My mother has always inspired me by simply making me feel as though I could do anything I ever wanted to do. She has never laughed at me, even at twelve-years-old when I started a clowning business that lasted about a month. My husband has inspired me to follow my heart in so many ways, and has been a huge source of inspiration for writing and many other areas of my life. My children inspire me to strive to succeed in any endeavor so that I can be a positive role model for them reaching their own dreams. In writing, however, my inspiration has come from many authors, not just one. Each book I read gives me the further desire to write, and I try to learn something about writing from each book as well.

How do you create the characters in your books?  Are they based on people you know?
I usually create the main character and maybe one supporting character based a little bit on people that I know, but not completely. The other characters find me as the story develops. I had an inkling of who Megan was when I began writing about her, but she developed her own personality very quickly. Although Olivia is not based on my step-daughter, Devyn, I did pull much of the teenage-attitude and voice from our interactions.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?
That is a great question, but I'm not sure I can answer it. I am not the type of person who finds one book and thinks it's a perfect book for everyone, because people are so different. There are books I loved, like Snowflower and The Secret Fan, by Lisa See. This book opened my eyes to things that I never knew existed, like foot binding, and was beautifully written. Then there are books like A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Hosseini, that show the strength of women and their ability to overcome horrible situations and bond together. There are other books that have spoken to me in so many ways, The Lovely Bones, because of its paranormal nature, Seven People You Meet In Heaven, which underlines the repercussions of how you live your life, The Confessions of Max Tivoli, which unravels backwards, which was entertaining and spellbinding, and far too more many to list. But I really can't answer your question fairly because again, I just don't think one book is the book for everyone.

If you weren’t a writer, what be your profession?
You really do have wonderful questions, Bridget! This one really made me think. I started a human resources consulting business at twenty-one-years old, and ran that for twenty years. I have also been a Director of Administration, a Realtor, and the President of a Civic Association. A writer is what I've aspired to be for so long that I can't honestly think of anything else I might enjoy as much. If I didn't write, my life would probably be very close to what it is, a mother and artist who gives back to women of the world through the Women's Nest (the support and social network for women that I created). I am truly living the life that I love. I have often said that I'd love to have a job where I could just go around and compliment people, make them smile, motivate them to have a good day and create their own path in life - so what does that make me? A motivational speaker of sorts?

If you could trade places with anyone in the world, past or present, real or fiction, who would it be and why?
I really love my life, so I have no desire to switch with anyone, but if I had to, it might be Christopher Robin. I mean, really, who has a more fun life than that kid and his bear? Talk about simplicity!

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 things, what would they be?
My family (does this count as one?), my computer (w/Internet so I can converse with people and download books!), and mint chocolate chip ice cream.

What is your favorite movie of all time?
Hands down, Dirty Dancing! I just loved the whole coming-of-age scenario, and who better to come-of-age with than Patrick Swayze! LOL!

What is the one thing that you want all your fans to know?
I write to have my stories read, so I'd want them to know how important they are to me!

If you could invite 5 people to dinner, who would they be and why?
Again, a really difficult question - I assume you mean other than family members, and people I already know, so here goes:
Nick Cassavetes - He could direct Megan's Way as a movie:-)
Meryl Streep - I admire her as an actress.
Jennie Shortridge - I love her writing style and her personality.
Ellen Degeneres -  She's just a very funny person!
Oprah - She built an entire empire on sheer will power.
(Could you throw in Hugh Jackman? He'd just be fun to look at. LOL!)

Thank you, Bridget! I have really enjoyed answering your thought-provoking questions!
Melissa
