My Dogs

I am a dog lover through and through.  I have always felt a connection with these four-legged creatures and I am always amazed at how special they are.  I am very passionate about saving animals, which is why I will always rescue.

My oldest dog Reese was three months old when my husband and I adopted her.  Two hours after we picked her up, we found out she had Parvo.  When the vet told us how much it would cost to treat her, there was no hesitation.  She was our baby and we did everything we could to save her life.

Thankfully, it worked.  After days of treatment and isolation, we found out that our girl is a survivor.   She is almost ten years old now.

When I contacted the shelter to inform them of her illness, they immediately told me that I could bring her back and exchange her.  When I replied in anger, they said “what do you want me to do about it?”  I was  livid!  The only reason I called them was because I didn't want any of the other animals to suffer.

We adopted Teegan about two years ago a when he was four.  He had a very sad past and we wanted to give him a good life.  We met Teegan through the Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP).  They take excellent care of dogs and cats.  They make sure that the animals receive all of their shots, start them on heartworm flea prevention and they use a thorough application process for the adoption process.  The dogs do not live in a shelter, they are cared for in foster homes.

Teegan was so badly abused that he had to spend five months with a trainer to learn to trust humans again.  SAAP truly cares about animals and it shows.  When I signed the adoption papers, the volunteer got all choked up and said to others nearby that this was a very special adoption.  If you were to meet Teegan now, you would have no idea that he was treated badly.

I am so glad that I was blessed with these two dogs.  They mean so much to me and make my family complete.

Do you love animals?  If so, I would love to hear your story.

4 Easy Ways To Save Money

My savings account is down-right pathetic at the moment.  Rather than berate myself for overspending, I have decided to think about how I handle money from this moment forward.  There are several easy ways to save up some money by doing the things that I already do.  Here are some examples:

1. Coupons and codes

It only takes a little while to clip coupons and you can save a lot of money.  If you shop at Kroger, you can add digital coupons to your Kroger Plus Card and save money without even using a pair of scissors. Before making an online purchase, see if there are any current coupon codes that you can use. RetailMeNot is a great resource.  When my husband and I order pizza, we always check to see if there are any deals.  Take whatever you saved and deposit it in your savings account.

2. Reward programs

I cannot tell you how much I have save just by signing up for rewards card at different retailers.  Kroger, Walgreens, Speedway and more offer rewards cards that can help you save money or offer cash back.  Sign up for Swagbucks and use the site to make purchases.  You get a percentage of what you pay back in Swagbucks which you can redeem in PayPal or gift cards.  Then put the equivalent in your savings account and spend the gift card money.

3. Sell unwanted items

If you are anything like me, you have several items in your home that you no longer need and/or use.  Turn that into some cash.  You can even join a Facebook Yard Sale group and sell your stuff that way.  If you have some books you are looking to unload, check out Cash4Books.net.  You can put in the ISBN number and find out how much you will get for that particular book.  You do not have to pay to ship out your books.  Take the money you make and put it in savings.

4. Pay cash for everything

Instead of using your bank card, use cash. Then, take all of the change and put it in your savings account.  If you are looking to save up a lot of cash fast, you can pick an amount to save.  For instance, every $1 bill that you get, put that in savings.  Or you could save every $5 bill.

If you have any other ideas to help save money, please let me know in the comments.  I could use the help.  Thanks!
