Giveaway: 7th Heaven by James Patterson

Description (taken from here):

A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. And after California's golden boy, Michael Campion has been missing for a month, there finally seems to be a lead in his case--a very devastating lead.

As fire after fire consume couples in wealthy, comfortable homes, Lindsay and the Murder Club must race to find the arsonists responsible and get to the bottom of Michael Campion's disappearance. But suddenly the fires are raging too close to home.

Frightened for her life and torn between two men, Lindsay must find a way to solve the most daunting dilemmas she's ever faced--at work and at home.

Reading Group Guide

1. Arson is a very curious crime to commit. Why do you think someone would be drawn to this crime? Do you believe in Freud’s theory as stated in the book?

2. In your opinion, would Junie’s occupation affect her credibility in the courtroom? Should it? For example, is a lawyer or doctor a more credible defendant/witness than a garbage collector?

3. In trying Junie Moon, Yuki tried to use public sympathy for Michael Campion to turn the jury against the defendant. What do you think of that type of tactic in a trial setting?

4. Conklin suspects Chuck Hanni, the arson investigator, for actually committing the arson crimes in the book. Why do you think serial murderers would choose professions close to their crimes?

5. Junie Moon’s intelligence and self esteem are brought up by the defense as reasons why she could have given a false confession. Do you think everyone who confesses is guilty? Do you believe interrogations should be taped?

6. In Junie Moon’s trial, much of the prosecution’s case is based on spoken testimony. What is your opinion on convicting someone for murder without physical evidence, but compelling testimony?

7. The Moluccan cockatoo Peaches, formerly known as Horndog, was described as depressed when it was living in the pet store. Do you think it is possible for animals to get depressed or have psychological problems like people?

8. Joe voices his worry that Lindsay’s relationship with Rich has become more intimate than the typical office relationship. Do you think Lindsay’s relationship with Rich could lead to something inadvertently? Should she request a change of partner out of respect for her relationship with Joe? Who do you think is better suited to Lindsay?

9. Connor Campion was very controlling of Michael because he feared for his son’s life. How can modern parents set appropriate boundaries with their children in an age where kids have access to cell phones, computers and other devices that allow them to live lives fairly independent of their parents?

10. As prosecutor it is Yuki’s right to believe the Junie is guilty and her duty to try her as such. There is a moral dilemma if a prosecutor feels that a defendant could be innocent or if a defense lawyer feels their client may be guilty. How do you think defense lawyers and prosecutors reconcile these conflicts?

In The Bedroom

I'm in desperate need of new bedroom furniture. It has been years since I purchased anything new and I think it's about time to change all that. I'll more than likely purchase some modern bedroom furniture in either black or cherry wood. The only problem I have with black furniture is that it gets dusty so fast. Cherry wood is really pretty and durable, so maybe we'll go with that. I really like sleigh beds, so that's one idea. I also want an armoire because I think they are gorgeous. A night stand is a must have for me because I always read before I go to sleep and then lay my book on it. Plus, I will need a place to put a reading lamp.

I could use some new bedding too. After my husband and I got married, I bought a bed-in-a-bag set but when Reese was a puppy, she put a couple of holes in it. I sewed them back up but it doesn't look very pretty. We want to get another puppy though, so I might hold off on a new comforter until after we get Reese's brother or sister trained. If I find a good deal, I may just go for it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wanted: The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris

Product Description (taken from here):

He was going to lose the house and everything in it.

The rare pleasure of a bath, the copper pots hanging above the kitchen island, his family-again he would

lose his family. He stood inside the house and took stock. Everything in it had been taken for granted. How had that happened again? He had promised himself not to take anything for granted and now he couldn't recall the moment that promise had given way to the everyday.

Tim Farnsworth is a handsome, healthy man, aging with the grace of a matinee idol. His wife Jane still loves him, and for all its quiet trials, their marriage is still stronger than most. Despite long hours at the office, he remains passionate about his work, and his partnership at a prestigious Manhattan law firm means that the work he does is important. And, even as his daughter Becka retreats behind her guitar, her dreadlocks and her puppy fat, he offers her every one of a father's honest lies about her being the most beautiful girl in the world.

He loves his wife, his family, his work, his home. He loves his kitchen. And then one day he stands up and walks out. And keeps walking.

THE UNNAMED is a dazzling novel about a marriage and a family and the unseen forces of nature and desire that seem to threaten them both. It is the heartbreaking story of a life taken for granted and what happens when that life is abruptly and irrevocably taken a
way.

Under The Sea

I love the ocean. I'm a fan of how it makes me feel, how pretty it is, and most of all, how many beautiful creatures live under the sea. Dolphins are one of the most beautiful, pure creatures I have ever seen. We went to Sea World when I was four or five and I can still remember how it felt to watch the dolphins swim. Then, when I was seventeen, I went on a vacation with my friends family and I was able to see them from the pier. I felt an overwhelming calm and for that brief moment, everything seemed right in the world. It's amazing the effect some animals can have on you.

I really want to check out cruisers activities in Cozumel and swim with dolphins. I love the way they look and how the jump out of the water and then dive back in. They are so gorgeous and I would love the chance to see one face to face. I'm definitely going to have to do this on our next vacation. The only problem is, I'll probably want to stay and live in the water with them. I'll just have to make sure I stay away from jellyfish and sharks.

WANTED: Divine Misdemeanors by Laurell K. Hamilton

Product Description (taken from here):

You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. In the fey and mortal realms alike, my life is the stuff of royal intrigue and celebrity drama. Among my own, I have confronted horrendous enemies, endured my noble kin’s treachery and malevolence, and honored my duty to conceive a royal heir—all for the right to claim the throne. But I turned my back on court and crown, choosing exile in the human world—and in the arms of my beloved Frost and Darkness.

While I may have rejected the monarchy, I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. My kind are not easily captured or killed. At least not by mortals. I must get to the bottom of these horrendous murders, even if that means going up against Gilda, the Fairy Godmother, my rival for fey loyalties in Los Angeles.

But even stranger things are happening. Mortals I once healed with magic are suddenly performing miracles, a shocking phenomenon wreaking havoc on human/faerie relations. Though I am innocent, dark suspicions of banned magical activities swirl around me.

I thought I’d left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. I had dreamed of an idyllic life in sunny L.A. with my beloved ones beside me. But it becomes time to wake up and realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever—even if they’re magical.

Save! Save! Save!

I'm addicted to saving money. I love coupons and sales. Anytime that I am looking for a particular product, I do a lot of research and try to find the best overall deal. Sometimes, that works out to be the cheaper product but sometimes it's actually cheaper to purchase name brands. I take a lot of different things into account. Price is important, of course, but so is convenience. From huge purchases, like a car, to small purchases, such as toilet paper, you can find great deals.

You can even order sold out event tickets online and save some cash. Just think about all the money you could save by only buying products that you have a coupon for. Even if it's just fifty cents here and two dollars here, every little bit can add up pretty quickly. Taking a few extra minutes out of your day and visiting an online coupon website will pay off in the end, I'm sure of it. Then, you can take the money you saved and buy yourself a little something pretty or save it for a much needed vacation. One other really great idea is to put it in a college fund for your child. Just think about how much you could save over the next eighteen years...

Pearly Whites

I think that a person's smile says a lot. I want straight, white teeth and I do everything I can to get them sparkling. I had braces from the time I was twelve until I was thirteen. I was given a retainer that I was supposed to wear at night so that my teeth would remain straight. Somehow, every night, I ended up removing it in my sleep. Now my two front top and bottom teeth are a little crooked. I've been thinking about purchasing dental veneers so that I can fix this problem and not be so self-conscience about my mouth.

I'm definitely thankful for the braces but I don't ever want to have to go through that again. It was extremely painful and I hated how food always got stuck. I'm sure that veneers would work better for me. The sooner I talk to a someone about cosmetic dentistry, the easier it will be for my teeth to go back to looking like they did when I was a teen.

Review: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy by Abigail Reynolds

Most of the people that I know who are obsessed with historical romance novels, adore Jane Austen. Yes, I am one of these people. This book answers the question that has plagued myself and readers like me. What could-have-been between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy if she had not refused his proposal?

This was an amazing read that explores the romantic possibilities between two unforgettable characters. I found it thought-provoking and extremely sensual.

But scars – even really old ones – don’t have to be permanent eyesores or indelible reminders of past pain. Lounging On A Hammock

Relaxing outside is a gift. Breathing the fresh air, looking up at the bright blue sky, is a great way to spend a few hours. The only thing that could make it better is watching Reese run around the yard and lounge on an outdoor hammocks with a good book. Soaking up some rays and swinging back and forth turning page after page is like a vacation but not having to pack or deal with traffic to get there.

One year, my family and our friends family took a trip to Gatlinburg and stayed in a chalet. It was great because not only did we get to spend some quality time with our parents, we also got to spend time with our best friends. Sitting in the jacuzzi at night while our parents were cooking was a fond memory that I will hold in my heart forever. I remember one day, we went outside and my dad decided that he was going to use one of the rope hammocks. He went to lay down and fell flat on his face in the grass. His second attempt was the same as the first. After the third try, he gave up. Now every time I see a hammock, I think about that wonderful vacation and the laugh we all shared at my dad's expense. I think every great family trip needs at least one moment that was "fall off your seat" funny. That's how you know it was a good getaway.

The first time I fell in love with hammocks was as a kid. I was always terrified that I would end up with my face in the dirt, like dad but I think that added a certain thrill to it. I'm thinking that the the hammock chairs might actually be a better idea for myself and my dad. It might be a little safer and I really like to have different options when I go outdoors. Sometimes I'm in the mood to sit and chat and other times, I want to curl up and just enjoy the day all by myself. I would like to have a choice as to how to spend my time, sitting or laying.

Review: Organic Cotton

If you ask me, there is a huge difference between cotton and organic cotton. Not only do I think it's softer, I also think that it is more durable. I use cotton balls to clean Reese's ear and the old cotton balls that I was using would come apart and I'd end up having to use six or seven of them in each ear. The Organic Cotton balls that I received from Tropical Traditions were amazing! They didn't try to pull apart and I didn't end up sticking my finger straight through them. This made cleaning her ears a lot easier and faster than normal.

Cotton rounds are great for removing makeup and using toner. Again, I found that the organic cotton was a lot softer and more durable than the old cotton balls I used to use.

I use q-tips after every shower and to spice up my eye makeup. My husband even noticed that the swabs were softer than the ones we normally use.

Giveaway: Hollywood Moon by Joseph Wambaugh Audio Book

Full Description (taken from here):
There's a saying at Hollywood station that the full moon brings out the beast--rather than the best--in the precinct's citizens. One moonlit night, LAPD veteran Dana Vaughn and "Hollywood" Nate Weiss, a struggling-actor-turned cop, get a call about a young man who's been attacking women. Meanwhile, two surfer cops known as Flotsam and Jetsam keep bumping into an odd, suspicious duo--a smooth-talking player in dreads and a crazy-eyed, tattooed biker. No one suspects that all three dubious characters might be involved in something bigger, more high-tech, and much more illegal. After a dizzying series of twists, turns, and chases, the cops will find they've stumbled upon a complex web of crime where even the criminals can't be sure who's conning whom.

Wambaugh once again masterfully gets inside the hearts and minds of the cops whose jobs have them constantly on the brink of danger. By turns heart-wrenching, exhilarating, and laugh-out-loud funny, Hollywood Moon is his most thrilling and deeply affecting ride yet through the singular streets of LA.

Review: Dr. Hess Products

Having dry skin can be a curse. I have excessively dry skin and there are times where my skin is so dry and cracked that it hurts. The winter time is the worst for me. I received some of Dr. Hess's Udder Ointment for Dry Skin and I've been using it on my elbows for a few weeks now. Now when I look at my elbows, I see skin instead of something that resembles a patch of desert.

Another problem I have is chapped lips. Again, this is most difficult to deal with in the winter. My lips are so thankful for Dr. Hess! I've been using this chapstick for a few weeks now, once in the morning and once at night and I can tell a real difference in the way my lips look and feel.

Review: Lollycadoodle Pet Toy

Reese loves toys! She has yet to grow out of her playful puppy stage and I hope that she never does. She's always hopping around with a toy or playing under a blanket. Her favorite toy at the moment is a snake from Lollycadoodle.

I'm very particular about what I allow Reese to have. She had Parvo when we rescued her and we have tried everything we can think of to make sure that she has a long and healthy life. I don't trust just any toy maker or food maker when it comes to my dogs. I do a lot of research and try to keep myself up-to-date on current pet products.

Lollycadoodle makes toys that are both safe and biodegradable, which is a another plus for eco-friendly people like myself. There are no seams or stuffing, so you don't have to worry when playing a game of tug with your furry friend.

These toys are so easy to care for. When you want to wash one of these toys, all you have to do is wash them in the top rack of your dishwasher and then let them sit in the sun to dry.

Review & Giveaway: EvoraPlus

I'm sure you've all heard the hype about probiotics (good bacteria) and their benefits. I, for one, stand behind them 100%. The first time I heard anything about a probiotic was when I was having Gallbladder problems. My gastroenterologist gave me some to help my stomach. Ever since then, I'm constantly looking for other forms of probiotics to help other parts of my body.

I used to use a lot of whitening products and over time I noticed that those products where causing more harm than good. My teeth became overly sensitive and they even stripped my teeth of enamel in certain places.

EvoraPlus is a probiotic that promotes gum and tooth health. Not only that, it also helps whiten teeth and freshen breath naturally. This is one of the best products I have ever received to review. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my teeth and overall oral health, if you ask me, EvoraPlus is a must have!!
