I remember when I had my very first performance review. I was awesome at my job but at the time I wasn't very confident and I'm sure that showed in my meeting. One meeting a year is not a good way to judge the people who work for you.
If you are interested in learning more about performance reviews, you should read this book because it is full of fresh ideas.
