Many screamfest shows have come and gone, but one of the few that have stood the test of time, and fans, is the CW's Supernatural which has taken us through five seasons of demon-chasing, sibling bonding and father finding. Jensen Ackles and Jared Paladecki star as Dean and Sam Winchester, two brothers who unwillingly take on the family business, ghost and demon hunting from their father John. As the story progresses, they catch the attention of character fans and the higher forces in Heaven and Hell. My favorite season finale was the most recent season 5, which I dutifully watched on Satellite TV, which I got by looking for direct tv deals.
The season begins with the release of Lucifer from his confines in hell and Dean being returned from the depth of hell by angel Castiel to be Archangel Michael's vessel in the final apocalyptic showdown with Lucifer who also has his own vessel. The brothers' relationship is heavily tested when it is believed that neither brother can kill the other when it comes down to it. Rogue archangels Zachariah and Gabriel want fate to play out as planned with Zachariah, however, wishing that Lucifer wins in the end.
The final battle is one of the most powerful scenes with Sam sacrificing himself after becoming Lucifer's vessel and hurling himself in the cage mystically created using the Apocalyptic Four Horsemen's rings. It ends with Dean trying to start an new life, but Sam returns, presumably as Lucifer.
