Interview & Giveaway with Rachel Vincent

Hello all my lovely readers! I've got a special surprise for all of you. Can you guess what it is? Huh, can ya? I guess if you read the title of this post you already know. I'm super excited about this because I am a HUGE Rachel Vincent fan.

Rachel is the author of the Shifters series and the Soul Screamers series.

First I want to say thank you, Rachel, for giving me the opportunity to ask you these questions:)

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?

Um... I've always wanted to be a writer, but I didn't realize I might be able to make a career of it until I started my first novel, in May of 2004. I haven't looked back since.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I think working parent/writers are my biggest inspiration. If people juggling full time day jobs and full time family commitments can still find time to write, and to write well, there's absolutely no reason that I can't. Or that anyone else can't, given the determination.

How do you create your characters?

I've found that they develop a lot with each text, based on what they're going through. The events and their decisions change people in books, just as in real life. So really, my characters are developed, at least in part, by the worlds they live in. By what's expected of them, and whether or not they rise to the occasion.

Are they based on real people?

No. Never. I don't feel like I have the right to write about real people, and I'd hate for someone I know to come off in an unflattering light in a book, and be offended. My characters are fiction, pure and simple.

If you could trade places with anyone, past or present, real or fiction, who would it be and why?

Truly, no one. I'm happy where I am in my life and wouldn't trade it for anything. ;-)

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 items, what would they be and why?

Something to write with, something to write on, and some form of shelter. The necessities, you know. ;-0

If you couldn't be a writer anymore, what would be your second career choice?

I taught 9th grade English for a short while before becoming a writer, and I have a huge respect for teachers. So that would be a slim possibility. But there's a lot less creative freedom in that line of work. Other than that, I don't know! Guess I better make sure this writing thing pans out, huh? ;-)

What is your favorite kind of food?

Oh, I love junk food. Popcorn, hot wings, french fries dipped in honey mustard. But I can't afford to eat like that very often, so that's how I tend to celebrate things. Rarely. ;-) As for music, I have very eclectic tastes. Everything from 80s hair bands to Pink, to Papa Roach. I treally depends on what I need to feel like at that moment.

What hollywood hunk makes you drool?

Well, most of the new crop of male stars are to... how should I say this? They're too small and pretty for my tastes. I'd rather have a man with strong, unconventional looks than with a pretty face and too thin physique. Going on looks alone (which I hate to do, but I don't actually know any movie stars personally), I prefer builds like Vin Diesel and John Cena.

What is one thing that your fans would be shocked to know?

Um... I think the answer I gave above might do that. ;-) Other than that, I'm a very picky eater. I don't like most vegetables. At least, not cooked ones. I eat a lot of fresh greens, but I hate brocolli, green beans, asparagus, carrots, canned peas and corn, etc... And I don't eat much red meat, unless it's in a burger. How's that for shocking? ;-)

I'm afraid that's as weird as I get. ;-)

Thanks for having me!
