The Stud Book by Monica Drake #studbook Review & #Giveaway

The Stud Book revolves around four close women who have known each other since high school.  Even though their lives have veered off in different directions, they still make time to stay in touch.

There is Sarah who longs to have a baby of her own but only encounters miscarriages.  She works in a zoo and observes the relationship between babies and their mothers.

Georgie has a newborn at home and her husband likes to spend his time at the bar.  She's doesn't want to become a nagging wife, so she just lets him come and go as he pleases.

Dulcet is the one in the group who does not want kids.  She teaches sex-education to teenagers and likes to experiment.

Nyla is a hippie with two older children.  She winds up pregnant and feeling guilty.  She also has a tendency to give money to charity that she doesn't actually have.

I had high hopes for this book.  I thought that the synopsis sounded great and I couldn't wait to dive in.  I made it about a fourth of the way through and then decided it wasn't for me.  I felt like the writing was a bit dry and there was just too much going on to really keep up.  I think that there is potential there, it just fell a little short.

I received a complimentary copy of The Stud Book by Monica Drake for review purposes. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

  1. I learned the definition of twee...
Twee is pervasive, genteel and hard to bear, pixie-haired, wide-eyed and precocious.

In a review it states “What really stands out is her depiction of [the] city. This is not the twee wonderland of Portlandia…" I had never seen that word before.
