Blog Tour: Distant Thunder by Jimmy Root

AUTHOR GUEST POST:

Beware! Writing Can Be Addictive
Jimmy Root Jr.
Author of Distant Thunder: Book One of the Lightning Chronicles

If your history was anything like mine, writing was simply one of those unmentionable facts of life. I wrote because it was germane to my job. Reading and writing were part of my education, one that I'm thankful for. However, it was only the reading that actually gave me any pleasure. Writing was something to be tolerated.

Everything changed one cloudy December morning. In hindsight, I experienced a seismic shift, a true transformation of my paradigm. In one, unsought after moment, my life changed. Here my turning point transpired. Everything began with a review of a thermometer that seemed to be buckling under an icy arctic blast. The atmosphere was so cold the nostrils of my nose stuck together with every breath. So, it took little brain wattage to deduct it was a day to stay tucked in the office and nestled up to a keyboard. And then it happened. I took the proverbial first sip. With nothing on the agenda but a cup of hot coffee I decided to write a story.

What I am about to reveal is so gruesome it would make most bestselling authors cringe. Without an outline, with no character etched in my mind, with nothing other than a few Bible prophecies and an innate desire to do something beyond my job description I began. Staccato clicks and extended sentences rattled the entire day. For the first time since my days on an old, manual typewriter I ignored the backspace key. It was just me, my computer, and a fertile imagination. By the end of the day I was a full-fledged writing addict. It mattered not that every paragraph contained multiple run-on sentences. I couldn’t tell you how many participles I’d left dangling. None of it mattered. My fingertips needed a fix, and the keyboard was cruelly fueling my new habit. Since that day, my addiction has led me to the doorstep of a Virtual Book Tour.

The writing of Distant Thunder began that cold, dreary morning of December 2, 2007. Enveloped in thick, blissful, writer’s fog I hardly remember the two months that followed, but by the first of February 2008, I had a manuscript. After another three months, Distant Thunder had a publisher. Miraculous? Absolutely! Unique? Hardly! But they say the first step to finding a cure is admitting the addiction. Well, I admit it all, but I still can’t quit.

Since that fateful start, my addiction has swelled into three books and a completely separate series proposal. If I weren't so completely enthralled with my new, life-controlling issue (addiction) I would be calling the nearest chapter of AWA....Addicted Writers Anonymous. As it is, I have no desire whatsoever to stop. I’ve even learned to outline. My sentences are shorter. My participles no longer dangle, and I hardly ever begin a paragraph with the word ‘it.’ The most glorious reality is the fact that there are no AWA chapters in the lower forty-eight states.

If you too are caught up in this horrible bondage to writing, all I can say is: WRITE ON poor addicted one! There is no hope for you, and therein lies the beauty.

MY REVIEW:
The Bible has many messages and has outlined a lot of events that have taken place or will take place. Some are beautiful and some are downright scary. Prophets were known to have a hard time convincing believers and non-believers alike. Their difficult calling made them outcasts by most but in the end, they stood by their beliefs.

Distant Thunder is about prophets and the different things that are said to take place in the future. Pastor Ty Dempsey believes he can map out the present and future by looking at the past. As more and more of Ty's warnings become real, his congregation can do nothing but accept his word and prepare.

Moshe is a pilot in Israel who is getting an up close and personal view of the war. He has heard Ty's preaching and together they embark on the journey of a lifetime and in the mean time, end up learning the importance of beliefs.

You will practically stay on the edge of your seat throughout this entire novel. There's never a dull moment.

His writings, both in book form as well as his blog, are purposed to be a wake-up call to a sleepy American church that seems to be losing a truly Christian World View. Distant Thunder and its sequels, A Gathering Storm and Then Comes Lightning, will reveal to the adventure/thriller aficionado the reality of the coming fulfillment of Biblically prophesied events.
