MiFi - The MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot is a personal wireless broadband hotspot that can be used anytime and anywhere an Internet connection is needed. With its size comparable to a credit card, it can easily fit in your pocket, purse or briefcase. This stand-alone device provides a mobile hotspot for up to 5 people to connect with multiple WiFi enabled devices such as laptops, iPads, camera's, PDA's, gaming devices, etc.
The MiFi is now available on prepaid plans through Virgin Mobile USA, meaning users can top off their data when needed, to avoid monthly contracts and potential overage charges (perfect for students and teachers who need occasional mobile Wi-Fi).
The MiFi first became available in the U.S. in May 2009, but was just launched on prepaid plans last week Virgin Mobile. Pricing with Virgin Mobile is $149 for the unit itself with no contract data packages ranging from $10 to $60 depending on the amount of data.
I come from a family of computer addicts. If we are offline for too long, especially for circumstances beyond our control, we go into withdraw. A couple of weeks ago there was a wind storm and our electricity went out. We only have desktop computers, so this was horrible for us. When the electricity finally kicked back on, the internet didn't work for 48 hours after that. Lucky for me, I had received the
MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Virgin Mobile. All I had to do was turn it on and I was ready to go! I was so thankful that I even gave it a few kisses (don't tell the hubby, I don't want him getting jealous - just kidding, I'm sure he had a make-out session with it too). It's a great device and my husband and I have decided to keep using it and discontinue our current internet provider. $40 a month for unlimited use is a great deal and what matters most to me is dependability, so the MiFi is perfect for us!
