The Taming of Mei Lin is a connected novella that takes place prior to Butterfly Swords and provides an intriguing glimpse into the heroic warrior culture prevalent in the entire series.
The bridal challenge that starts the story off is both an homage to the legend of Wing Chun as well as the famous marriage duel between Mu Nianci and Yang Kang in Jin Yong's (Louis Cha) Legend of the Condor Heroes.
Originally titled "Warrior Bride", the brain trust at HMB cleverly came up with the more sensual title which also clearly denotes the Asian setting.
