Solis was raped as a child and she was constantly battling why this happened to her. She can't escape the nightmares that make her re-live the event over and over. Little did she know, there was a reason this happened and it has to do with her destiny. Her family and the family of the raper have been at war for 257 years.
When she meets a hunky vampire that she is drawn to like a magnet, suddenly everything seems to fall into place. Nacio, the vamp, is determined to stop Solis's tormentors once and end the war once and for all.
I love vampires, romance and voodoo so I knew this was a book that I needed to read. I'm so glad I did. It's easy to relate to Solis and it's even easier to hate her enemies. You can't help but root for the good guys in this thriller.
Q & A
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
I knew I wanted to write a book several years ago in my early twenties. I wasn't sure what it would be about, but I never did it until just recently. When I finally sat down to write, I let my imagination run wild, and I penned Embellish.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration in my life were my mother and my grandparents. I was always taught as a woman to "Have my own things", no matter what it was. Even as a child in school the message at home was, have your own pencils, your own paper--independence was a huge philosophy.
How do you create the characters in your books? Are they based on people you know?
Characters from my book were created from some good and bad characteristics of people I know, and then I take those characteristics and intensify them. If a characteristic is good then you will see good in just about everything that characters does. If the characteristic is bad or evil the evil will have no morality behind it whatsoever.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
I believe a book everyone should read is "Women who love to much" by author Robin Norwood. She gives excellent advice to women who are extreme over achievers, that tend not be be happy unless they are unhappy in love. Women and men can learn a lot from the her perspective.
If you weren’t a writer, what be your profession?
Actually, I am a therapist, as well as a writer. If I could have been something different, I would have tried my luck as an actress, a back up singer for some popular song diva or rock band, or perhaps a doctor.
If you could trade places with anyone in the world, past or present, real or fiction, who would it be and why?
If I could trade places with someone, I would trade places with Oprah. I would love to be able to have the resources to find adoptive homes for as many children as possible, or provide housing to the homeless population.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 things, what would they be?
If I were stranded on a deserted island, I would have to have my little pie-faced daughter (she has a little round face), my wonderful husband, and an unending shipment of Oatmeal and Raisin cookies. Those are my favorite.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
One of my favorite movies of all time is Ever After with Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott. I am a hopeless romantic.
What is the one thing that you want all your fans to know?
I would like for all of my fans to know that I am a huge Scooby Doo Fan!!!! The original episodes from 1969-1978...minus Scrappy Doo...he talks way too much!!!!
If you could invite 5 people to dinner, who would they be and why?
My five dinner guests would be:
Oprah-I want to ask her hairstylist if he could make my hair look as beautiful as he does hers.
The Rock band Heart-(sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson)-I want them to sing "Magic Man" when we finish eating. I want to hear the guitar solo in "Magic Man"
Phil Collins(Genesis)-I want to know why he is so interested in the Alamo in San Antonio, and I want to know if he would play "In the air tonight" after we finished eating.
Boney James(Smooth Jazz saxophone artist)-I would want him to perform his song "The Total Experience". It's my theme song that I use for every book signing.
Chaka Khan(R&B artist)-So she can teach me to sing.
