Ella is running a plantation all on her own. Her mother has an accident and her father has turned to booze.
When she meets Gentry, she instantly feels a connection. They fall deeply in love and then all of a sudden Gentry is gone. Feeling a deep surge of painful emotion, she marries a man who has wanted to be her husband for some time, Victor.
She soon learns the disturbing way that Victor runs his plantation. She begins to question the life she lives, as well as, the life she lived. When the secret of Corrigan's Pool becomes clear, Ella is left with some difficult questions.
This is such an intriguing book. I've loved historical novels for as long as I can remember and I have to say that this is one of the best ones I've read in a while. The characters are described so well that I feel like I know them. The unique plot made this book one of my favorites.
